Artist's Statement Contd.

Since graduating my practice has evolved to explore crafts and arts. I am fascinated by the notion of ‘beauty’ and what appeals to the viewer in a piece of art work. My present work explores ideas of time intensive craft, which is in contrast to the environment of instant gratification that we live in.

I am inspired by my grandparents make do and mend generation. For example, my Nanna tells of how, during the war, they used to barter with soldiers for wool blankets so they could make them into coats. Although we seem to be a nation that is obsessed with fashion and beauty, we seem to have lost the practical and traditional skills to create it for ourselves.
